what i'm feeling for: fall 2017

Saturday, September 2, 2017

When I made my first "What I'm Feeling For" post back in Fall 2014, I didn't realize it would end up being one of my most popular posts on the blog. Though I can't say I'm still quite sure why it was such a popular post, I wanted to continue posting in this series (although the Fall 2014 post was my first and last for a while). Three years later and without further ado, here's a look at what I'm feeling for the upcoming season.

1. Block heels: A refreshing contrast to the insanely uncomfortable and overly-done sky-high stiletto, block heels have grown on me for a multitude of reasons. The chunky heel and general profile of the shoe is unique, and provides way better heel support. This, of course, means a way more comfortable shoe without compromising style. Marc Fisher makes this gorgeous shoe at a reasonable price point.

2. Non-gem statement earrings: Over the years of the comeback of statement earrings, they have become essentially synonymous with the big, shiny gems as made famous by J Crew. But I've lately grown to prefer non-gem statement earrings- threaded tassels, pom poms, sequins, and large beaded earrings. Baublebar has always offered a good selection, and these multicolor Sabina Drop Earrings are no exception.

3. Light glitter nails: I couldn't find a good image online of this, but in the recent failed struggle to find a good neutral and almost nude nail color, I opted for something similar- just one or two coats of a gold glitter nail polish on my bare nails with a top coat. The results are subtle and clean, and a good alternative if you're tired of the usual nude colors. My favorite glitter polishes are Essie, and my favorite top coat is Seche Vite (beware the strong smell).

4. Canmake cream cheek: I found about this blush through a Cupcakes & Cashmere post a few days before leaving for Japan earlier this spring, and definitely made it a point to track it down on our trip (although it's available on Amazon). This Japanese brand cream blush is used on J Crew models, and for good reason- it's light, subtle, stays on all day, and produces the most natural appearing flush. To make it even sweeter, the price point is almost unbeatable for the quality. I like to apply it with a dry beauty blender/beauty sponge.

5. Cream gel eyeshadow: Although these have been around for some time, they are new to me, and have almost replaced my eyeshadow palettes. Travelling with large palettes can be cumbersome and I often find myself using less than half of the colors any palette comes with (hello, useless pale colors). Additionally, I don't prefer to spend 30 minutes using a multitude of colors to create "the perfect look". Using these Maybelline color tattoo gel eyeshadows means using a clean finger (no fancy makeup brushes) to dab color onto my eyelids and that's essentially it. With eyeshadow primer, the colors don't crease and stay on all day. My favorite color that goes with almost everything is Bad to the Bronze.
